hopped up on a large coffee from tim hortons..

for those who know me I'm not an avid coffee drinker but today I needed it.

yesterday was... different.

the day started off odd enough when my cubicle mate came in about an hour late, forcing me to push back a meeting by an hour. What was much worse was why he came in late. He was heading on the subway past north york centre in the front car when he heard a large bang. The power was cut and the train came to a complete stop. The whole train was in panic as no one knew what was going on. But my cubicle mate seeing the subway driver in complete dissarray and having heard of similar stories, figured out what had happened.

I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but I've been totally oblivious to the suicide attempts that frequently occur on the toronto subway system.

as the article states, the media is not allowed to report any of it, so we can only really hear from word of mouth. I of course don't like posting things like this, but I thought I should share this with everyone. I'm not a big fan of censoring things even if the case may be as extreme as this. If it's a problem I think it should be out in the open so we can confront it and hopefully try to do something about.

....writing that was a serious mood killer but I'll try to continue on.

Following the meeting was the sweeping cancellation of both volleyball and basketball (due to rain), allowing me to attend my first activities meeting as the next lead. But... coming in the way of this possilbe momentous occasion was mr. nonatiroomate's birthday!! His sister wanted to throw the young man a surprise party with all of his coworkers and friends. After jointly compiling a list of e-mail addresses on who to invite and working out some minor details. She proceeded to send out the secret meeting invitation to everyone..... BUT.... she forgot one thing. TO REMOVE HIS E_MAIL FROM THE LIST!!!.. oh noo.. so the secret invite when to the birthday boy... kind of ruins the surprise but whatever... Sort of ignoring the mishap we went out and got the cake, cutlery etc.. and arranged it all. Although it wasn't a real surprise in the end there is no way he could have expected about fifty people to show up in his honour. So it was successful. The highlight of the event being the company x interns booming out 50 cent in a conference room with the full timers outside in their cubicles trying to work. If I have anything to say about it, it won't be the last time.

Following the party, I found a pile of work in my inbox. Normally, it wouldn't be a problem but I had to leave early for a nano meeting. So, I told my cubicle mate I'd work on it that night and headed out the door. After some nervousnes about being late, I actually arrived early for the meeting (thanks to the college streetcar). I have to say that the meeting was hugely successful. Mr. nanohead is a very nice guy and let us whine away. I especially love to complain about school (see my first 30 or so postings) so it was great. After the meeting we all headed back.

Okay.. I don't have too much time left so I'll be quick with the rest. I got home, went bowling for mr. nonatiroomate's birthday, bowled a 147!, my personal best!! and got home too late to do any sort of work. Had to wake up insanely early.. 5:15!!! so that I could get into work at 6:00 (got the best parking spot possible!) to finish off the work I was supposed to do the night before. Hence, the large tim horton's coffee and me being hopped up.

that was an odd post. but whatever..

oh ya.. playdium next week.. HOPEFULLY.. to say goodbye to mr. recentlyshavedhead who's off to greece.

bye for now.

I remember hearing about the problems on the bloor viaduct as well. I think it was an idea to have a phone available that is connected to a crisis helpline. Not a bad idea in my opinion.

I see what you mean Eral. It's very easy to fall through the cracks in today's world without anyone even taking notice. People are more isolated than ever with mp3 players, computers etc..

and for anna..
thanks for the compliment. I tried checking out your blog but it says "coming soon!" along with some random advert... maybe I'll give a shot a little later..
