my day in court..

the majority have of you have probably heard my story about the two cars racing north up the 404 and the ensuing accident.

so, yesterday finally came the day of the "trial" of one of the drivers. It was COMPLETE BS..

after spending a good 15 mins finding a parking spot, I spent a good 20 mins sitting outside a courtroom talking to some random guy constantly complaining about missing work to be there. I wanted to say something about his indifference to the whole judicial system, but as I were to soon find out, he had good reason to feel that way.

After the wait outside the courtroom, came out what seemed a stressed out prosecutor. He gathered the "three witnesses" and told us about a plea bargain the defendent's lawyer had proposed, which was pretty much a drop of all charges and a simple slap on the wrist with being billed the court charges and a minor speeding ticket. We totally disagreed with him and pushed him to reject the plea bargain and go after the conviction. But his hands were tied. The cop was not there. There exists a loop hole that allows the defendent to send an "agent" to court on their behalf. So, the defendent does not need to be in court unless the arresting office actually escorts them in. This allows the defendent's "agent" to push the proceedings to trial and without the actual defendent in the courtroom there is no way of identifying the person who committed the crime. As I said, complete BS.

In conclusion, the bastard got off with a speeding ticket.

I was quite upset. The bastard of a person who could've easily killed innocent people... got off. He's such a coward. We (the witnesses and I) pretty much saved his life and he we didn't get as much as a thank you or anything. WTF. People like that piss me off. This made me consider a brand of my own vigilante justice, but it turns out his name is too common for google to find him, so I'm screwd.

My whole faith in the judicial system is out the window. There's this as well as the whole Karla Homolka situation where the crazy bitch got out after only ten years when she should really be sent to the electrical chair.

Overall, I'm glad I didn't ever consider being a lawyer and now share the apathy of others towards the judicial system as a whole.

that's all for now..

bye bye
